1. Awakening believers to their position in Christ.
Ephesians 1:3-4 KJV
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
2. Restoring the balance of God’s sovereignty (grace) and man’s responsibility (faith).
Ephesians 2:8-10 KJV
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
3. Promoting the centrality of Christ (and His cross) in teaching and preaching of God’s Word.
1 Corinthians 2:1-2,4-5 KJV
And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
4. Recognising the differences in administration in the body of Christ.
1 Corinthians 12:5,18,25-26 KJV
And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.
5. Emphasising Christlikeness as the goal of the Christian life
Romans 8:29,32 KJV
For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
